The Unangax people of the Aleutian Islands developed an Iqyax (kayak) characterized with a unique bifurcated bow. The people suffered terribly during a period of exploitation by Russian fur traders and much of their oral history and culture has been lost, including the meaning and purpose of the bifurcated bow. There are several engineering theories that attempt to explain the shape of the bow, this video presents an alternate explanation.
